Mercy Ships is an international humanitarian organization that uses hospital ships to deliver free, world-class healthcare services and medical capacity building in the world's poorest nations. Founded in 1978 by Don and Deyon Stephens, Mercy Ships has worked in over 70 countries, providing $1.53 billion in services to more than 2.71 million direct beneficiaries. Every year over 1000 volunteers from up to 40 nations volunteer onboard the Africa Mercy, the world's largest civilian hospital ship.

![🌎 Today is World Ocean Day! Oceans have a major role in everyday life. They are the lungs of our planet, a major source of food and medicine, a critical part of the biosphere, and a vital part of the work we do.
Oceans are also necessary for our hospital ships to reach people in need. Over 50% of the global population lives within 100 km of the coast, making ships one of the best ways to reach populations little or no access to healthcare.
On World Ocean Day, we want to acknowledge the role our oceans play in helping us deliver hope and healing to those in need. We also stand by conservation action to grow the global movement to protect our oceans.
